Gator Officials No Fans Of Juicy Campus

Today marks the first day of college for my daughter’s good friend, Kimm. Kimm has a lot to look forward to – interesting classes, intellectual discussions, parties, new boys, … but hopefully no invasion of privacy from a website called Juicy Campus.
Juicy Campus features gossip items that are posted anonymously. Featuring colleges from all over the United States, the posters can say anything they want about anybody they want. Full names, home addresses, private details about sex lives that may or may not be true – all of this can be posted and there is no way that the person it is posted about can remove it.
The New Jersey Attorney Generals office is investigating whether they have any legal recourse in regards to Juicy Campus. They issued subpoenas to advertisers Google and AdBrite Inc. - both have pulled their ads. The President of The University of Florida sent a letter to the Florida State Attorney General’s office in an attempt to take get the office to take some action. A copy of the letter can be viewed here http://randazza.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/uf-letter.pdf
Figuring out how to balance school and a job, studying for finals, schlepping the laundry home to mom, this is the extent of what a college student should worry about. They should not have to worry about strangers knowing their home address or fellow students posting erroneous rumors about their private lives in a public forum.

In the world of identity theft and crime it’s a scarey thought that someone can post your private info for the world to see…
It really is. I can’t imagine how frightening or frustrating it would be to have been targeted for this thing. I know for sure that I’m be pissed. There’s no recourse for people who post things that aren’t true.
I’m not on the “when is it…” boat but more of the “how can i…” boat. I’m still too torn up about my last relationship to start looking again
Hi Taram. I bet you meant this to go on the when-to-look-for-someone-new post. I think that when it’s time you’ll know it. If you question it, you aren’t. Love is tough.
