GB#07 – Cape Wind Project Facing Threat Again

The Cape Wind Project – a 130 turbine, 420 MW offshore wind farm planned for Nantucket Sound off of Massachusetts – is in danger of not happening yet again. This time it’s because of an amendment that Alaskan Congressional-critter Don Young has introduced to the Coast Guard Reauthorization bill.
The amendment would ban offshore wind turbines within 1.5 miles of shipping and ferry lanes. The ban is based on an allegation that they’ll interfere with shipping and radio transmissions. Ironically, oil platforms can be built within 500 feet of shipping lanes.
The vote will come down next week and Greenpeace has got a Take Action page going for this particular issue, so head on over there if you’re interested to trying to bring some sanity to this debate.
