Barr Pharmaceuticals, Inc.’s generic version of Roche Laboratories Inc.’s VESANOID® (tretinoin) Capsules, 10 mg has been approved by the FDA.

vesanoid10mgcapsules.jpgVESANOID® (tretinoin) capsules are indicated for the induction of remission in patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL).

Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a subtype of the cancer acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

APL is characterized by abnormal, heavily granulated promyelocytes, a form of white blood cells.

APL results in the accumulation of these atypical promyelocytes in the bone marrow and peripheral blood, and replaces normal blood cells.

Barr is the first drug company to market a generic version of this product in the U.S. and plans to launch its product immediately.
