Thanks to good buddy Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei, author of Eye on DNA (among her many credits), for this bit of info!
Another mental health-related event is being held in Washington, D.C. – although, attendance to this one, unlike NAMI’s 3rd Annual Unmasking Mental Illness Gala back in October, is much more affordable. Actually, it’s free!
Event: Genetics and Public Policy Center’s next Genetic Perspectives on Policy Seminar (GenePOPS) “DNA and Depression: Tests, Trust, and Treatment.”
When: 2 p.m. EST Monday, December 17, 2007
Where: National Press Club in Washington, DC
Why: From the news release: ” Speakers will examine the broad policy issues emerging from growing understanding of the genetic basis of depression and other mental conditions, the ability to detect genes responsible for these conditions and offer therapy based on genetic tests, and the policy questions raised more generally by genetic testing for personalized medical treatment.”
For more information, check out the news release or email gppcnews@jhu.edu.
And, if you attend, take notes! I’d love to give a guest post spot here at MHN to anyone who attends.
