Genetics Researcher Seymour Benzer Wins Albany Medical Center Prize
Congratulations to Dr. Seymore Benzer of the California Institute of Technology who has been awarded the 2006 Albany Medical Center Prize. It is the largest prize in medicine awarded in the United States.
Dr. Benzer played a key role in establishing that genetics play a role in human behavior. When he began his research in the 1960’s, most still believed that human behavior was primarily influenced by environment.
Dr. Benzer:
The impact is opening up the whole idea that behavior can be dissected by manipulation, studying the genes. It’s an entire cycle. Every step of the way is under genetic control.
Thank you, Dr. Benzer, for your contribution to the genome revolution.
