Get Fit Friday: Turkey Trot

Thanksgiving Day can be daunting for parents…what do I do with the kids ALL day, especially if I am cooking?

Don’t fret. Instead, get the kids out of the house in the morning and they will be tired enough in the early afternoon to rest. Trust me.

For over twenty-five years my family has participated in an annual turkey trot with 15 other families.  Yes, I was just about seven when this started. My son is now five and we are still trotting every Turkey Day.

We meet at a different family member’s home each year, take a 45 -60 minute walk around the neighborhood or local forest preserve and then head back for breakfast. The kids play, the adults catch up, and everyone returns to their respective homes tummies satisfied and hearts warmed.
