Get to Know Mullein

Mullein is one of those herbs that everyone should have on hand but not that many people know about.  Mullein should not be used by people that are taking blood thinners or have clotting problems, and you should discontiiue using it three weeks before a scheduled surgery.  It is a potent blood thinner containing some of the same chemical compounds as Coumadin.

Like most herbs Mullein should be used with care and respect.  Always do your research and know how to use the herb.  Never put it in an ear that you suspect has a ruptured eardrum.

BUT…it is safe when used as directed and you can’t beat it for many ailments.

Mullein is generally one of the components of ear oil because it is great for stopping pain in the ears as well as working against infection and inflammation.

It helps to clear lungs and congestion caused by colds, flu, bronchitis and such.

It is great for urinary tract infections.

And, a balm made of mullien and beeswax is very soothing to chapped skin, burns, and diaper rash.

It really is an all purpose herb, almost a medicine cabinet in a bottle.
