Getting Control of Your Day

Web Worker Daily is one of my favorite sites, and, I don’t even work from home, well, for pay, anyway.

There’s a great article, How to Take Control of Your Day When You’re Overwhelmed that really spoke to me, offering tips about how to “get a grip” that can be applied to both work and home.

The best advice? Stop and think.

So many times, when everything seems out of control, whether it be before a board meeting, or, before dinner, a good old fashioned deep breath is all you need to get back on track, and, get a handle on your anxiety.

If it sounds a lot like a “time out”, there’s a reason for that. Taking time to collect your thoughts is sound advice for all ages.

Read the rest for other tips about how to get control of your day.

“stop and think”. So simple, but so true. And you’re right, a little time out never hurt anybody.

  2. Erin says:

So true! I find carrying a small spiral notebook to make a list of things to do helps me. I can add or take off items or even just re-prioritize.

  3. Sara says:

Thanks for this refreshing post! I need to be reminded sometimes about taking those “Time Outs” for myself…And, in turn, it benefits everyone in the house!

  4. Nicole says:

Thanks for linking to those tips! Sometimes it’s absolutely necessary to take time out.

  5. Aimee says:

This is great advice. I struggle with this all the time. In my job it is very easy to get overwhelmed and then even more overwhelmed when I get home with all that I have to do.

  6. Heather says:

I just found your blog. I like it. Good tips!

Thanks for the link. It’s a great article, even for those of us who don’t work outside the home.

Sometimes I just have to stop and write a list of everything I want to accomplish so I can focus on one thing at a time!

Hey! I want a prize! Am I too late??

I also find shutting myself in a room by myself works.

I work at home FT and balancing home, work, and kids is harder than people think. Thanks for the post!

I find that if I close my eyes, sit for a moment and take a deep breath it helps a LOT. Sometimes just listening to nature for a few moments will help rejuvenate ya.

  14. AndyTN says:

    Coffee and chocolate rejuvenate, too!

  15. Michelle says:

Thanks for all your tips. I LOVE all your blogs!!

  16. JayMonster says:

I dunno, I tend to “overthink” (or so I am told), and usually it is the opposite (in the immortal words of a sneaker company — Just do it.) that helps (although the deep breathe is probably a good idea).

  17. Sherri says:

Spiral notebook lists can keep you on track – as long as you are organized enough to always make one. I’ve been known to start my lists with something that I’ve already completed, just to have the satisfaction of crossing it off, what does that say about me???

  18. Melissa says:
