Gifts for Control Freaks

Shhh, don’t tell anyone but I know that hubby is a gift control freak. What I mean is this; when it comes to buying him gifts he’s not happy unless he knows what we’re buying for him. He will check out everything until he is certain what he wants and then he will make sure that’s what he gets. In the past we’ve suggested he write a wish list, which he has done, but he doesn’t rest until he knows which gift we’ve selected.

I suppose he just doesn’t want to be disappointed, but in my opinion it takes the joy out of buying gifts for him. You just can’t surprise him. Sometimes he does it in such a tricky way you don’t even realise, until later, he’s taken over the gift buying procedure yet again. Since I’m pretty easy going this doesn’t particularly bother me. But my big kids are a lot like their dad and they want to buy him gifts that will surprise him. Good luck to them is all I can say.

What about you? Do you make wish lists for Christmas and birthdays or do you leave it completely up to your family? Do you take charge of the gift buying even if it is for you? How special and secretive are you about the gifts you buy for family members & children? Do you think it matters? Spend some time writing in your journal how you feel about choosing, buying and giving gifts to others and how you feel about them doing the same for you.

I hope you enjoy this journal writing prompt. Please leave any comments in the section below.

Omg this is totally me. I like surprising others, but hate not knowing what I’m getting. I’ve recently been struggling with what to get myself for Christmas this year as well. My parents will be giving me money, but I don’t know what to spend it on. I talk myself out of buying everything. I have literally been starving and talked myself out of buying food at the grocery store before. It’s horrible.

  2. Lol, yeah, I thought some might recognise themselves in this description. I sure hope you eat something soon, though. Hubby likes to collect knives, so that’s what he’s getting this year; chosen by him, of course. Thanks for your comment. ;-)

I like to give gift ideas for those buying for me, but enough so that it’s still a surprise!! But I also still love the thoughtful gifts that are completely a surprise :)

  4. Hi Nikki,
Thanks for giving your thoughts on this. I meet people all the time who are like hubby, but for me I’m just glad someone thought of me. I’m easy to please then I guess. Thanks again. ;-)
