These are great for people who are no longer able to follow radio or television programs. Relaxation videos/DVD’s have no narrative and simply provide a soothing visual and musical experience. They can provide an avenue for reminiscing about the past and are also very helpful in reducing agitation and sundowning.

  1. The staff often used relaxation videos and music CDs at the nursing home where my mom lived for eight years. Sometimes I’d visit Mother and find her humming to the music…tunes from her earlier days. These also create a relaxed atmosphere for family members when they visit.
I found Mother’s friends at the nursing home also liked livelier dance tunes. They didn’t dance but tapped to the beat of the music.
