Gifts You Shouldn’t Give Your Mom

As Mother’s Day approaches, some people buy wonderful, heartfelt gifts to give their cherished moms or beloved wives. And some people…well, some people…Did you really think your mom would want a handy jean patch kit to make it easier for her to mend your jeans when you drop by to visit? Really? If so, you might want to check out this list of gifts you shouldn’t give your mom on Mother’s Day:

  • Tickets to a sporting event when she absolutely hates sports. (If she loves sports, bring on the season pass!)
  • A new washer, dryer, stove, or other major appliance that will be used to clean, cook, or wash things for you. (On any day but Mother’s Day or her birthday, this would be a lovely gift she’s sure to appreciate.)
  • A pet of any kind. (Pets are something people should really get themselves. If you didn’t buy the pet, it isn’t your fault if the new puppy chews up Mom’s new designer shoes or the kitten claws the new drapes.)
  • Clothing (Unless you know her taste and size. Otherwise, gift cards or a shopping trip together where you treat her to something she loved and put back because it was too pricey are a better bet.)
  • The joyous news that you, too, will be a mom…unless you’re over 18. (Seriously, wait until Monday to break the news. )

Feeling worried that you might give your mom a bad gift after reading this list? Don’t be. After all, no matter how awesome your gift is, there is something your mom will love even more. Just walk in the front door, give her a hug and say, “Mom, I love you so much. Happy Mother’s Day.”
