Glica Icecream

Glica have a nice ice cream that they call caramel.  It is actually a lot more like maple syrup flavour in my mind, and I have noticed that many caramel flavoured things in Japan actually taste like this.  Is this just Japan, or does caramel taste like maple syrup in other countries as well?
