Two actresses protraying women with Alzheimer’s Disease have been nominated for Golden Globes this year.
Julie Christie was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) for her role as woman who is disappearing into the vortex of Alzheimer’s disease in ‘Away From Her’.
Sissy Spacek has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television with her performance as a foster mother beginning to show signs of Alzheimer’s Disease in “Pictures of Hollis Woods.”
A Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, Pictures of Hollis Woods was aired on CBS earlier this month. You can see a preview and purchase the DVD at the Hallmark website. The Hallmark site also features information about the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s Disease and also offers a teacher’s guide to stimulate learning and conversation amongst school aged children.
The Golden Globe Awards ceremony will be broadcast Sunday, Jan. 13, on NBC.

My family saw Pictures of Hollis Woods and loved it. Alzheimer’s was handled lovingly and with compassion. Because we all (Daughter, Son-in-law, two grandchildren, Hubby and I) were involved in the care of Mother and Auntie, we could relate. We also liked Hollis’ story. I’ve encountered children like Hollis through my work with youngsters. This is a MUST SEE. We’re definitely going to get the DVD for our collection and to view again.
