Gourds Are for Butterfly Houses Too

The gourd is a fascinating creation, and I’m sure that if gourds had brains they’d realize how unique they are. The vast majority of gourds are not grown to be eaten. A few varieties are harvested for food in Asia, but most of the world finds other uses for the gorgeous gourd.
Of course, one of the most popular uses is birdhouses, but gourds may also be turned into butterfly hangouts. Other uses include musical instruments or bowls. If you missed it, check out my post on Glorious Gourd Decorating.
Cliff and Wendy of Blue Rock Gourds have been growing, selling and painting gourds for 20 years. They even sell craft-ready gourds for any artists out there. I heard about Blue Rock Gourds over at Mother Earth’s Garden.
Adore upon these gourd creations from Blue Rock Gourds (via Etsy):
Make the most of this beautiful Butterfly House: Wendy says to add the rind of a tangerine or grapefruit to attract butterflies.

How do you feel about garden gnomes? Most folks either love or detest them, but if you fall in the love category, you’ll be sweet on the Strawberry Gnome Birdhouse.

And, if you hurry, you can still make or buy a gourd treat display for your Halloween candy. Here’s a Halloween Gourd Treat Bowl from Blue Rock Gourds:
