A Zambian advocate proudly now owns the very prestigious and famous Goldman Prize. This award is an environmental award given to individuals or groups who have contributed a lot in keeping nature and everything in it safe from harm.

This Zambian is Hammerskjoeld Simwinga and what he did was he helped lessen the incidents of elephant poaching in his area. To do this, he started some projects for the villagers to keep them busy and help them have a constant source of income.

As the recipient of the awardee, Simwinga took home $125,000. And on his program he says, “People are now seeing the benefit of protecting their natural resources. Not only do they see the beauty of a live animal, but the live animals are now putting money in their pockets.” He also did add, “We deliberately pushed our resources to the womenfolk in the community because we knew that working with the women was the strongest part of persuasion.”
