Green Car Journal’s Top 5 Green Autos

The Green Car Journal Online assessed the auto industry and sent out their top share of the top five greenest vehicles. The Green Car’s Top 5 comprises of the Honda Civic GX which takes the number one spot, the Lexus GS 450h for the second rank, and the Mercedes Benz E320 Bluetech takes the third. The Saturn Vue Green Line Hybrid goes to the fourth spot while the Toyota Camry Hybrid trails fifth.

Ron Cogan is the editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal Online and so he says, “While hybrids are clearly on the minds of many these days, the inclusion of the popular natural gas Honda Civic and Mercedes-Benz E320 BLUETEC clean diesel show that this field is wide open. Ultimately, it’s not just about a specific technology or fuel. Winners in the marketplace must fulfill the traditional needs of buyers with regard to safety, quality, performance, and value, while offering substantially improved environmental performance as well.”

My parents almost bought a hybrid once, and me being the conservationist that I am, was very excited. But my dad did some sort of crazy math and said that it wouldn’t save him anything in the long run. I of course made a point to tell him he would be saving his oxygen. Really I just think it was because the particular car he looked at had very little trunk space and he couldn’t fit his golf clubs! Actually it was when hybrid’s first came out, they have really come a long way in a few years.

Hybrids are fine…but they are just taking away from research / technology that should be top priority…non fossil fuels. Companies like Honda already have a electric hydrogen car….companies like Venture Vehicles are on the cutting edge of putting out their 3 wheeler that will get 100 mpg (hopefully by 09). This is the future…and it’s only going to take American imagination to move away from oil or companies like Honda which I applaud for work they have done. Our US car companies could be taking the lead…but they won’t. I won’t buy a hybrid…cop out…will wait for something soon that will probably be electric something that I can just get too and from work.
