Green to Grow BPA-free bottles

Last month I mentioned that my wife and I are using Medela BPA-free plastic baby bottles after finding out that certain baby bottles leech chemicals into their contents. My wife almost exclusively breast feeds, but we chucked the Dr. Browns bottles we had within minutes of hearing the new.

I mentioned that we went out and bought Medela brand bottles, specifically because that was all that was left on shelves in a local store. However there are other brands of BPA-free plastic bottles out there. A reader named Campbell was kind enough to mention the Green to Grow brand of bottles. I checked out the Green to Grow website and there is lots of good information and other resources about the toxicity of plastics used in common applications.

Chemical companies and baby bottle manufacturers claim human exposure to low doses of BPA is harmless. Yet there is growing scientific evidence to the contrary. In August 2007, an expert government panel found there is concern that bisphenol A causes neural and behavior problems among children who have been exposed to the chemical before or after birth.

Many consumers are unaware of this controversy and continue to purchase polycarbonate baby bottles, having never heard of BPA or the dangers it may pose for their families.

BPA is also widespread in bodies of water such as rivers and estuaries, and in landfills, where it leaches into the surrounding ecosystems.

Their ‘learn‘ page is worth checking out, even if you’re not in the market for bottles.

If anybody else has used Green to Grow, or has experience with other BPA-free and low toxicity bottles, I’d love to hear your reviews or advice.
