GroGood – My Patio Vegetable Garden

I’m taking part in something that is pretty exciting to both my daughter, Sarah, and me. We are working with GroGood, Plant A Row For the Hungry, and Feeding America, to build an urban garden. The program is sponsored by Scotts Miracle-Gro.

The program sent me two metal planter boxes – good looking boxes a smokey dark grey color, so they will look nice out on my patio. There’s also a couple of trowels, a couple of bags of Organic Plant Food, a couple of re-usable shopping bags, and a couple of prepaid Master Cards to purchase soil. They suggest Miracle-Gro soil.

I’m going to speak to my mom about which vegetables to grow in the boxes. She is an expert in Environmental Horticulture and I want to chose wisely. I already have some herbs, tomatoes, and squash on my patio. Sarah and I plan to donate part of what we produce to The Jesus Center, which is a local facility that helps the homeless with meals and services. Sarah did a volunteer project there with her Girl Scout Troop and it meant a lot to her.

I will keep you updated on the process as it grows. I hope that you will look into the program, as well. You can find out more about the GroGood program by clicking on their website.

This is such a wonderful thing you are doing. I can’t wait to hear what you are going to grow and the progress you make. We are going to start our gardening in a few days, the kids are very excited. I think you are teaching your kids some wonderful things.
