Guatemala in Trouble Too?
With all of the Vietnam issues and the previous Guatemala issues (okay, the current, ongoing, and just plain old disheartening issues) I am gettin’ a little bummed.
The new Attorney General Baudilio Protillo Merlos took over on April 24, 2008. The new Sub Attorney General is Flory de De Leon. Apparently de De Leon is holding off making any critical Constitutional Court rules and Merlos has requested an audit of in process cases.
So, what does this all mean? Cases that were ready to go will be delayed.
Additionally, PGN is on hold until agreements are settled. See Guatadopt for meeting updates.
Currently, our case is in Family Court. It got reviewed and kicked out for a Certificate of Citizenship paper. Our representative/lawyer got the requested document and resubmitted the case to the same court so we hope that it will end quickly and we will be on to PGN.

Hi Marcie,
When Colom was here he more or less promised the senators from Minnesota that those adoptions would go through.
Good luck and hope all goes through as quickly as is possible.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for everything goind smoothly and speedily with bringing the Bebe home.
Thanks guys. We are still in family court so officially the PGN issues have not affected us, only the COC has for Family Court. We too, are crossing our fingers for a speedy homecoming.
We ran into troubles in Russia as well but they seem minute in comparison to what is going on in Guatemala and Vietnam right now. I think that every adoption from an international country is going to hit some bumps in the road and my philosophy now is to simply take it in stride, as social workers and lawyers can only do so much.
However, when it comes down to it what we all want is a safe and happy home for these children, not to kidnap them or buy them from their birth mothers.
I only want my sons to be happy and healthy.
