Guatemalan Coffee

guatstream-elinjertopre.jpgWhen we were in Guatemala the only thing we purchased was Guatemalan Coffee because Guatemala is specifically known for its coffee (and because we love coffee).

This relatively small country boasts one of the most climatically diverse regions in the world. The soil, rainfall, humidity, altitude, and temperature are varied enough to produce seven distinct types of Guatemala Arabica coffee. The following descriptions of Guatemalan coffee were adapted from Anacafe promotional material, interviews with Anacafe personnel, and personal experience researching coffee in Guatemala.

We purchased the Lacas Guatemalan Antigua Coffee 1lb Whole Bean Bag and the Fraijanes Plateau just on a lark (basically because we did not know the difference) and love them both.

Antigua seems to be the most popular kind and the region (between three volcanoes and nestled into a valley) is internationally renowned for its high quality coffees. Antigua coffee is “described as having a full and velvety body, a rich and lively aroma, and a fine acidity.”

The one we always get and bring back for everyone is Extra – El Cafetalito. It’s a brown package. I’m not much of a coffee expert but after trying many packages I was told this was the best stuff.

Glad you found some you like.
