People love to cook healthy, tasty recipes for themselves and their families. However, did you know that many pet lovers have meals they prepare for the entire clan – even the family pet?
Petfinder.com, the largest online database of adoptable pets, asked its visitors to share their favorite food for pets and people. The following fall/winter recipe is perfect for those multi-tasking chefs who want to whip up one meal that is suitable for their spouses, children AND their pets.
Harvest Veggie Soup
5 ¾ cups chicken broth
1 pound skinless boneless chicken breasts
2 zucchini
2 summer squash
1 ½ cups of ½-inch-diced yams
1 ½ cups of ½-inch-diced red potatoes
Reserve a 6-oz portion for your pet, then add the spices, bell peppers and onions you and your human companions love.
More fun food facts from the survey:
-
While kids are generally not big fans of veggies it is quite the opposite for our furry friends. Most of the respondents commented on how their pets munch on vegetables of all colors, shapes and sizes.
-
Fruit is also a favorite among pets, with bananas being the most popular snack.
-
If you have a sick pet, try boiled ground round and white rice. According to one pet parent, it just might do the trick to put your pet on the road to recovery.
