Halloween costumes – what are your kids doing?

October 8, 2008 by Sherry Osborne

I have a confession to make – I enjoy Halloween more than any other holiday. I have another confession – part of the reason I send my kids out to Trick-or-Treat is so I can raid their candy stash.

Shhh! Don’t tell them.

This year my oldest wants to dress as a mermaid and my little one wants to be a witch. The witch will not be a problem. The mermaid might be on the expensive side so I may have to put on my thinking cap and make one myself. It wouldn’t be the first time. I’ve also made her an ant costume and last year I turned black leggings, my black hoodie, and some sewed-on white pieces of fabric into an Orca costume for her (sheesh!).

Are your kids going out for the spookiest night of the year? What costume are they wearing?

My girls are going out as princesses again this year. So far its been 8 yrs as princesses! I wish they would try another but they seem to be stuck.

I can’t decide what my baby girl should be… a ladybug? a bunny? I saw a kid dressed up as a tree-shaped air freshener that said “little stinker” and thought it was hilarious! I’d copy it but my baby’s not fussy or anything; she’s a good, calm, happy kid.

My oldest daughter decided that she wanted the whole family to dress as pirates this year. So after convincing her two younger sisters that this was the best idea ever I am now making 1 adult male, 1 adult female, 4 kids (varying sizes), and a dog pirate costumes!! I really need to get busy because all I have done so far is make that hats.

My daughter still isn’t quite sure what she’s going to be, possibly some sort of princess. My 3 yr old plans on being a ninja turtle, as for our darling 2mo old, I have no idea, probably just get him one of those halloween sleepers.

When I was little, my mom made most of my costumes. I was a birthday present, a skunk, a cat, and man I can’t even remember some of ‘em.

  15. Suzanne says:

I never thought far enough ahead to have a costume made by Mom. I was always jealous of friends who did, though.

My 3 year old is going to be a fireman and my 5 year old is going to be Belle (of Beauty and the Beast). My 7 year old doesn’t know what he wants to be yet, he just knows he wants to be something scary. My husband and I also need costumes for a party we’re going to, I haven’t dressed up in years! We’ll be hitting the party/costume store this weekend for ideas.
