Handmade Christmas Gift Guide

As my family grows and the economy continues to struggle along, I’ve really been thinking hard about Christmas 2009. I do have a few toys tucked away and I plan to pick up a few more during the big toy sales, but most of my gifts this year will be handmade. I thought it would be fun to collect all my handmade gift posts in one handy spot, so am putting together this handmade gift guide.

The first thing on my list is the simple microwaveable heating pads I made for myself one day when I had hand pain. They’ve gotten so many comments that I’m making more to give to family and friends this Christmas. I have made a few adjustments, like using essential oil in addition to the dried lavender buds. I also am thinking that rice is less smelly than the birdseed I originally used. The key seems to be using cute fabric. I have a lot of flannel scraps from quilts and other projects, so this is one thrifty Christmas gift.
