Happiness Strategies

According to some “happiness” observationists, New Yorkers by definition or genetics or too many tall buildings…are among the most miserable people in the country. The happiest in the country? Branson, Missouri.

Did you know that there are “scientists” out there who measure happiness levels for a living? Or that there is a place called the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania? Did you also know you can take a test to see how happy you are? One such examination is called “The Authentic Happiness Inventory”…(proper New York response…should be: “Give me an ‘effin’ break”).

As a New Yorker, I tend to look at life not in terms of overall happiness, with occasional bouts of misfortune–but rather in precious little increments of being “less unhappy”. However, I did experience a momentary chuckle when I read Jennifer Senior’s article “Dark Thoughts on Happiness” in this week’s New York Magazine.

I hope you’ll give it a read and give some serious thought to your own happiness.
