Happy Boxing Day

Ahh, Boxing Day!
I think I like the day after Christmas even better than the actual holiday. What does one do on Boxing Day? Nothing! Sure, you can lounge around and play with your presents, eat leftovers, head to the pub for a midday beer, but the whole point of the day is to take the day off, relax. Enjoy.
I’m using this peaceful day to catch up on reading some of my favorite blogs. I saw that Alicia at Mental Health Notes invited us all to take a Christmas Survey. So here are my answers, one day late:
- Hot chocolate or apple cider? apple cider, but I’d prefer some hot mulled wine.
- Turkey or Ham? neither - a standing rib roast is our new Xmas tradition.
- Do you get a Fake or Real cut-it-yourself Christmas tree? Real, but we didn’t cut it ourselves.
- Decorations on the outside of your house? Nope. Can’t. But our inside lights do shine out of our third story apartment windows.
- Snowball fights or sledding? Sledding, definitely. Agreed.
- Do you like hanging around the fireplace because it’s warm? We have a fireplace, but it’s sealed shut. A hi-def Yule Log on the TV will have to do. And yes, it does make me feel warmer.
- Do you enjoy going downtown shopping? If it’s not online, you’re not getting it.
- Favorite Christmas song? “Knocking Boots for Christmas”
- How do you feel about Christmas movies? Not a big fan.
- When is it too early to start listening to Christmas music? Before Thanksgiving.
- Stockings before or after presents? Before, but I haven’t had stockings since I was a kid.
- Carolers? Are a fading tradition, I think.
- Go to someone else’s house or they come to you?All of the above. My parents’ on Christmas eve. His parents’ on Christmas day. Random visits throughout the week. This is reason #145 for having a kid - so we can control the holiday schedule.
- Do you read the Christmas Story the night before Christmas? Nope.
- What do you do after presents and dinner? Fall asleep watching TV.
- What is your favorite holiday smell? Spices for mulled wine (see #1) mingled with fresh pine and just a faint whiff of someone’s fireplace burning.
- Ice skating or walking around the mall? I think the odds of me colliding with someone are less ice skating. So, ice skating.
- Favorite Christmas tradition? Boxing Day.
- Favorite Part about winter? It’s boot season.
- Ever been kissed under the mistletoe? Sure. But mostly by relatives. Nothing salacious.
It’s not too late for you to play, either. Here’s Alicia’s original post. Enjoy!

Gabrielle:
You answered my un-asked question: “What the Heck is Boxing Day?” Thanks to you, I finally get it! And although I’m kind of a Type-A person, it does sound lovely to hang out doing nothing… if only for a little while.
As for #12, I wish caroling weren’t fading. There’s something so sweet about it.
LOL, #15 was me yesterday, too!!
