Happy Late Anniversary to the Baking Queen

This is sort of a late anniversary present. I pretty much stalk Humboldt real estate, hoping I’ll find something perfect enough to motivate me to move back. Yesterday, I found something for Marye instead.

Marye, long time Offbeat supporter and friend, just hit her one year anniversary at Baking Delights. All I can afford to get her is some link love. Although, if money was no object, I’d get her this little ditty in Humboldt county. Ferndale to be specific. Ferndale rocks because the entire town is on the historic registry and it’s beautiful. When I lived in Humboldt, I liked living on the beach best, but I visited Ferndale a lot to scare the poor residents by standing outside and staring at their homes.

This Marye-perfect farmhouse is on the market, and if I won the lottery, I’d buy it for her and then make her move there so I could visit.

It’s a little small for all those kids Mayre’s packing, but still…

She could totally bake out in this kitchen. And no, not Humboldt style bake outs, I mean cakes and stuff.

I know she likes stairs! She has some in her current house.

Look at this - you can almost smell the Lost Coast. So much beauty it makes you ache.

If you’d like to look into this beautiful home, or some other fine Humboldt house, visit Humboldt Land Company.

You should now go visit Marye, read about some cookies and pies, and say, “Happy Anniversary!”

I love old houses like this, but not a fan of wallpaper (like by the stairs).

  2. Peggy! You can’t go by cosmetics - wallpaper is easily (and should be) torn down. I don’t like the white in the kitchen. However, if I could afford this home, I could afford to paint that kitchen, maybe a darkish-medium blue would look great, and a new bamboo, or maybe earthen floor. Of course adding earth floors after the fact is sort of insane. Hmmm.

Oh, Jennifer. I won’t go into the huge wall (vaulted ceilings) with elephant wallpaper hiding mildew at our last house.

I heard similar statements about wallpaper, etc. being an easy fix from real estate agents when we bought our first house. Problem was that we spent three years of working nights and weekends and 20K on all those easy fixes. Of course, we did more than painting though.

Next time, I swear NO ugly wallpaper or hideous trim or window units or hardwoods that need refinishing!

  4. It is absolutely perfect! I love it! Thanks jennifer! After I move in I will make you ..ummm… a veggie burger with chipotle mayo, heirloom tomato and sprouts..homemade potato chips, home-canned dill pickles, fair trade chai latte ice cream and a blood orange italian soda..hows that?

  5. Yahoo! I knew you’d like it. And that dinner sounds perfect too. We’d throw on some music, and have a good old time - while Peggy dealt with the wallpaper :)

@Peggy Mildew! Didn’t you have a home inspection? Or was this a rental.

  6. Peggy says:

Jennifer, I used a highly recommended inspector, but most inspectors don’t peel back wallpaper or do anything else that messes with the house. They have a little disclaimer about that. The guy was horrible. He missed all kinds of things. Next time, I’m getting TWO inspections.

  7. Peggy says:

And Marye — Happy 1 year at Baking Delights!

I’ve been hanging at Kettle & Cup more since I’m on a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet. Baking Delights is too tempting most of the time. : (

  8. Jennifer says:

@Peggy ah, got it. Yeah, if I bought another house, I’d have two inspections, although, I’d rather build, or green remodel something pretty old, thus rendering inspections less necessary.
