Hardanger in Action!

Last evening as I stitched, I actually remembered to take some pictures as I went along. First, I stitched the kloster blocks around the perimeter:
Next it was time to set scissor to cloth. This is as traumatizing to do as it is to see.
Pulling threads is the Moment of Truth- here are two shots, one where I’ve pulled only a couple threads, and one after I pulled them all.
It is at this point that one stitches the various webs and ladders and woven bars and things. This last image is after I stitched the first of four Woven Bars. Once they are complete, then the empty corner spaces get filled with a Spider Web. The completed kloster block on the far left of the piece is filled with Adjoining Wrap stitch.
I’ve been experimenting with thread length with the silk floss, and find that for the kloster blocks and wraps etc, the more usual length is better for me. Less starting and ending of threads and not knowing where to tuck them on the back sides.
So many speciality stitches…It is coming out delightful and very tender
You know I can’t remember the last time I actually did needlework… probably back in the seventies, but compared to your photos, I think it was definitely the beginner level or maybe kids.
That is where I would be with knitting!
There is just simply never enough time to learn to do every interesting hobby well.
Gorgeous! I love hardanger that uses colors other than white or ecru.
This designer really has an eye for pretty things.
Maybe after I feel more confident with hardanger I wouldn’t mind a piece that was all white on creamy background, but I think any mistakes would really be noticeable then. lol!
I prefer a splash of color in most things though, so I doubt I’d ever actually stitch a white piece. I’d be tempted to do one in wild tropical colors…
