Heart Healthy on Christmas Eve

Here’s an important reminder for a heart healthy holiday season from the Asbury Park Press:

Not to be alarmist, but a 2004 study confirmed that people are more likely to die of a heart attack on Christmas or New Year’s Day than any other day of the year. The researchers from University of California in San Diego and Tufts University suggested one main reason may be that people who are busy with holiday obligations delay seeking help for symptoms.

Santa and others should know to call 911 right away if they experience uncomfortable pressure, fullness, squeezing or pain in the chest, arms or upper body; sudden, unexplained fatigue; or shortness of breath.

Trauma Center: Under the Knife

I’m spending part of the holiday season performing heart and other surgeries…on my Nintendo DS Lite playing Trauma Center: Under the Knife. It’s part of my effort to take a time out as instructed by the British Heart Foundation’s heart healthy Christmas and New Year tips.

How are you aiming to have a hearty life this coming year?
