In the latest segment of America’s Next Top ModelHeather, who has Asperger Syndrome, and the other girls go to China. Her expressions in these photos remind me of some Charlie regularly makes: He too screws up his eyes and smiles and looks out of the corners of his eyes, when he seems to be thinking; some have called these “soft neurological signs.”)

No, I don’t think he’s a likely contestant if there were a search for American’s Next Top Male Models………..).

We have only run across one person, a student teacher studying special ed, who noticed the eye-rolling and looking out the corners of his eyes. In 5 years of appointments, assessments and special ed programs in 3 different states. One non-professional woman in her 20’s noticed. She happened to be his aide in kindergarten.

My daughter has spent the weekend watching our Tivo’ed cache of this show over and over. I was not sure this was a great parenting decision on my part at first, but she was so, so interested in it and in Heather. And it’s not as if there are dozens of other shows out there featuring positive depictions of autistic adults. This is pretty much it. It has given us many “teachable moments” over the past few days!

Charlie would win my vote for top male model of bike helmets and fuzzy garments.

    He’s a handsome boy.

Yep. That’s familiar. I call it Eleanor’s “thinking” face.

I agree–Charlie would be an excellent model for cycling gear.

  5. Hmmmmm………

The middle photo is very Charlie, trying to figure something out—and the bottom one, definitely Charlie, too.
