heirloom crafts

I recently wrote about some of the handwork that was passed down to me when my grandmother passed away:

It’s now up to me to take care of it for the next generation.  So what are you working on, not just for yourself, but for someone else special?

  1. Isn’t it wonderful to have some of these family heirloom crafts and memorabilia? I’ve acquired some from my family. My daughter and I cherish them…quilting, other handwork, pictures, and old letters.

There’s something so special about having something that one of your ancestors worked on, isn’t there?

I have table & bed linens, ladies handkerchiefs, which I remember my Great-Grandmother sitting in her rocker stitching away. Most of our family heirloom stitchery I have inherited. Some of the pieces that were to far gone to save I pieced together in a stitchery collage. Then there are others that have held up but have a few stains in them. Most of these are large table cloths with intricate stitching. I have preserved them for 40yrs. or so. My children are grown and they are not interested in them. I am in conflict with myself as to what to do with them. If any one has any suggestions please let me know.
