So instead she gives dimes to the kids instead. Sure when you break it down a dime is probably more than one or even two "fun size" pieces of candy from a large bag if you get it on sale, but there is no "waste" from excessive purchases of candy. Having a roll (or two depending on the volume of kids in the area) is also a good idea to have "just in case" even you are giving out candy, just in case your candy supply doesn't quite make it through the evening.
