If the place you want to go to isnt that far, ride a scooter or bike there. If your mom doesn't want you to go alone, invite a friend or an older sibling to go with you. If your mom still doesn't feel comfortable with this, invite an adult to go bike riding with you. This will make it much safer for you and also make your mom feel much better about the idea. If your mom doesn't like any of these ideas, try finding a job you can do in the neighbor hood like mowing lawns, walking dogs, or selling lemonade!

I encouraged my rising 10th grader to look for a job, because her social life costs me more than my own does. She was resistant, but eventually a family friend, who is a lawyer, offered her work in the office. No night, no weekend, no smelly uniform, 3 days a week. Perfect job, unless you're the complaining teenager who actually has to do the work! On the other hand, my 12 year old is eager to work and has lined up a series of yard jobs stretching all the way to August. I wonder which one is going to support me in my old age?
