Here’s a Tip–Stress Less, Act More

Take it from me, a professional, world-class worrier. If I can think–and rethink–something several thousand times, chances are I won’t get anything accomplished, except wearing myself out in every way possible.
So, with the advent of this New Year, as I’ve already shared, I have spent a lot of time meditating and thinking about what is right for me in terms of making lasting change in my life. I don’t want to get caught in the same old trap, making promises to myself only to let myself down sometime around January 17.
My meditation has helped in a couple of distinct ways. I’ve gotten ‘real” with myself. Sure, I would love to change many things, but what is realistic in terms of time commitments, goals, etc. Meditation helped me shake that all out. I’ve also been able to “quiet” myself, and sort of retrain my thoughts, to prevent what my brain naturally does–reach for everything possible, and think about the reality of the commitment later. That’s a sure recipe for failure. I’ve become quite mindful of what I am capable of accomplishing and what I really want to adhere to this year. So in a way, I’ve already achieved something pretty significant. I’ve set a path for what I call productive self-control.
And I’ve also sort of achieved another goal for 2009. I want to enhance my practices in a way that is really meaningful. I’ve already begun to grow in my meditation practice. Pushing yoga and Pilates is another goal, and something I will be challenging myself with at a more physical level. I’m easing into the latter
Hey, It’s only January 2. I have time.
But it’s all happening because of one mandate I have placed on myself. Be real, do what I can to improve my life, and block out all the other “noise” that always seems to find a way to permeate my process.
Sounds simple enough, but it is a challenge. What are your challenges for 2009? I hope they make you all healthier and happier. Make the time to expand your meditation practice. It lays a great foundation for accomplishing what you want and learning what you really need in all areas of your life.
Tune into yourself and you will find success makes its own path.
Peace.
