High School May Get Power From Wind

In Minnesota’s Twin Cities, it seems like the trend of using wind power would be opening up right even to high schools. One school, the East Ridge High School, would soon be availing of the power that the wind provides by 2009.

Officials of the school are looking how they can put in the wind power system. Of course, they would have to make use of a wind turbine but they are still currently studying just how big the wind turbine would be. Jim Bain, the district coordinator for energy management, had mentioned, “I think there’s a great opportunity for us. The payback could be significant over time.”

Aside from saving cash, the wind turbines could also help educate the students, as Ted Suss, the Wabasso superintendent, explained, “It’s a tremendous opportunity to involve districts in producing energy and bringing in another revenue stream that’s not relying on the political process. Plus, we can use it to teach students about clean, renewable energy sources. It’s one way for us to do our part.”
