History of Russian Easter

Russian Orthodox Easter, or Pascha, will be April 27th this year almost a full month after Westerners celebrate Easter. (Coincidentally, Eric and I traveled to Russia 3 years ago today to meet AJ for the first time…on Good Friday).

Orthodox Easter is very similar to Christian Easter, as they celebrate the death and the rise of Christ, the devout women who served him, Holy Week, and His Resurrection. They even, as Catholics do, celebrate “Willow Sunday” or Palm Sunday.

The difference falls mainly between two different calendars; the Western calendar and the Gregorian Calendar and the Julian Calendar by the Eastern Culture.
