Homemade Bath Bombs..Very LUSH

I am a LUSH addict. I know. I know. It is SO not frugal and it is one of the weird quirks I have that doesn’t fit in my personality.
But there ya go. I yam what I yam.
Bath bombs are so easy to make and they are great gifts. Christmas is coming up, ya know. Not only that but they are…very….very….very…VERY frugal. The LUSH bomb that I pay 4.95 for at the LUSH store can be made for under a dollar in my kitchen. Admittedly I don’t put the cool floaties or colors in it.
Intrigued? I thought you would be. Here is what you need:
1 1/2 cups baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid
10 drops essential oil or a mixture…or a soap fragrance..make sure it is cosmetic grade and can be used on skin.
1/4 cup organic coconut oil, warmed to a liquid.
1/8 tsp. Wilton Paste food color- your choice of color
Combine all ingredients. Add a bit more coconut oil if needed.
Press into muffin tin or mold oiled generously with coconut oil
Allow to harden for 24 to 48 hours in a dry place.
Remove from mold.
Wrap in colored plastic wrap and tie with a ribbon.
These must be kept dry so don’t try to make them in very humid weather.
Snowdrift Farm has a long list of essential oils and formulas for blending into scents like sugar cookie, chai, and chocolate ecstasy. Using essential oils will keep the ingredients organic and natural..
It is, however, nice sometimes to use the chemical scents from places like Scent It. They have scents like Blueberry Cobbler, Creme Brulee,Hawaiian Punch, and toasted marshmallow.
Once you get some practice making bombs you can make specialty ones for yourself and for gifts. Pack the bottom of the mold or muffin cup with a scent like graham cracker and pack the rest of it with banana or chocolate scent. Use your imagination to come up with your own combos.
You can also press in tea leaves, lavender buds, dried herbs, and even glitter just like you know who. For example, if you make a chocolate rose bath bomb (and you should..because they smell great) fill the bottom with pink rose powdered bath bomb…and put a dried rosebud in the center. Now fill the rest of the way with brown chocolate scented bath bomb powder. When the bomb dissolves the rosebud (s) will be released into the bath…pretty slick, huh? Craft Lobby has cosmetic grade glitter you can use as well.

I have heard really good things about Lush. I am hoping to order something from there for the holidays.
this is now on my list of things to make for xmas this year. where can i find coconut oil, without having to order it online? also, when you say citric acid, can i just use a lemon juice?
Lan…you have to keep it dry so you need powdered citric acid..you may be able to find it in the canning section of the grocers OR in the soap making section of craft stores like Hobby Lobby.
Coconut oil…ANY health food store should have it.
Are the homemade bath bombs anywhere near as good as the Lush ones?
I think they are Chacy. I am pretty addicted to LUSH Sex Bomb..and I like the homemade ones.
