I’ve written before about how I like to make my own treats for our dogs. I like knowing exactly what’s going into the treats and of course, knowing how fresh they are. It’s also pretty economical, with each batch costing just a fraction of what store bought treats can run.

Daisy’s Homemade Dog Biscuits
from LifeWithCake.com
1 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup unsalted butter melted
1 cup boiling water
2 teaspoons chicken or beef bullion
¾ cornmeal
1 tablespoon honey
½ cup milk
1 cup Parmesan cheese
1 egg beaten
1 stalk celery (chopped fine)
1 small carrot grated
2 cups whole wheat flour (white flour can be used)
~ Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease cookie sheets.
~ Combined oats, butter, and water, and bullion, let set 10 minutes.
~ Add cornmeal, honey, milk, cheese, egg, celery, and carrot.
~ Stir in 1 cup of flour at a time, mix well to form a stiff dough. Knead dough on a floured surface about 3 minutes and then roll out to ½ inch thickness.
~ Cut out biscuits with cookie cutters, and place on cookie sheet ½ inch apart.
~ Bake 35-45 minutes until crisp and golden brown. Depending on the size of your cookie cutter is how many biscuits you’ll get. Store loosely covered for up to 2 weeks.
