Audiences flocked to Dr. Seuss’ animated “Horton Hears a Who!” this weekend. The film, based on the best selling book by Dr. Seuss, raked in an estimated $45.1 million debut, the best opening so far this year.
The movie features the voices of Jim Carrey and Steve Carell. It’s produced by Blue Sky Studios, which is responsible for the “Ice Age” movies.
The impressive debut was smack in the middle, dollar-wise, of other recent Seuss movies: 2000’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” took in $55.1 million and 2003’s “The Cat in the Hat” grossed $38.3 million.
The difference for Horton? Two big deals. One, solid reviews this go round – the other Seuss movies didn’t fare as well. And two, it’s Spring Break for many schools throughout the country (yep, that means kids with nothing to do but go to the movies).
Are you planning on catching the film?

We watched it last night and really liked it. Now it made my very sensitive 4-year-old daughter cry but everyone else was laughing.
Is it appropriate for young kids? I was thinking of dragging mine there this week…
yes it is, but mine is very sensitive. She cries at most movies, she’s a snsitive soul. My other 3 loved it, they are 1, 7 and 10.
