House Training a Puppy

Probably one of the biggest reasons I would never get another puppy is the house training (that’s not to say it’ll never happen, it’s just the top spot on the “con” side of the list!).

I house trained Chip and re-trained Honey when we adopted her. At the time I wasn’t able to find a lot of information with tips or tricks, it was mostly “take the dog outside and wait for it to go.”

The video above by Carla Nammack-Wenger, the owner of Country Club Kennels & Training, gives some great advice and information on how to avoid accidents and make sure your puppy gets trained with as little aggravation as possible for you both!

The investment in time necessary when you have a pet, simply in doing things like house training, is the main issue I think most people don’t realize when they say they want one. My wife and our ten year old always like the idea of having a pet then with their busy schedule have difficulty following through. I had pets for many years growing up and know the kind of time involved. It sounds strange to people when you talk about not wanting a puppy because of the house training involved–until they understand the kind of time and dedication pet ownership demands.

Gee…I take the time to send a post and think is what I get? I should have my dog come over and pee on this website.

Shawn, I think you’re confused. Are you upset because no one has commented on your comment?
