How NOT to reshape a CD

CD with spiral crack…(let’s see you do that twice!)

I decided to attempt shaping a CD as per the instructions from my weekend post (June 30th). Well, I don’t know what went wrong, but something did.

I set my toaster oven to 300 degrees, got out my porcelain bowls (be CERTAIN that your bowls are oven safe or you will regret using bowls instead of the tuna can suggested by Donna Erickson) and started in. First, I put the CD into one of the bowls. Then, I heated it up for 25 seconds, like instructed…and the CD warped slightly, but it didn’t reshape when I pressed it between bowls. I tried heating it another time, and pressing it, but it just wedged into the bowl and sat there, mocking me (don’t anyone try to tell me that creations take on the temperment of their creator…I’m worried it might be true).

I pried at it with a knife, but it wouldn’t budge and it cracked slightly in the center by the hole. When I put it back in this time, it disapeared on me. Well, okay, it was still there when I openned the toaster oven, but it had somehow popped out of the bowl and had this strange, spiral crack. (See picture above for more interesting info than my verbal description)

The best I can figure is that the crack from the middle (made with my knife hacking) extended from the middle and, for some reason, spiralled outward. I found it a nice touch that it popped out behind the bowl to confuse me.

Stay tuned to see what sorts of strangeness happen to me as I attempt to follow instructions on how to bend CDs!
