How Secure is Your Cell Phone?

More and more families use cell phones, iphones or similar, for personal use and business.

They text intimate messages, post family photos, even place financial information on the most modern of these communication devices.

Have you considered how truly secure they are?  Even after you think you’ve deleted the information?  Do you know how your activities and that of your family can be tracked through these phones?

Do your youngsters realize that the information they send over the phone is accessible long after the call or text is made?  One teen I know had her cell phone checked by the police because she and a friend sent text messages deemed improper or harrassing by a classmate’s mother.  (Unknown to them, the classmate had used his mom’s cell phone.  Later these messages popped up when Mom used it.)

Sometimes the cell phone is the only phone, as many people discontinue using a “land” phone.  So…as cell phones become more sophisticated, you may find yourself putting more and more sensitive information on it regarding your business and personal life.

Is your information safe?  Can others access your data for unsavory purposes?  Will people obtain information you don’t want made public?

I came across an interesting article in New Scientist, The pocket spy: Will your smartphone rat you out?    It seems almost too “James Bondish,” but modern technology can spy on us almost anywhere!

You might want to consider how you and family members are using your cell phones and discover what can and can’t be learned from it.
