How Social Networking Sites Affect Relationships

I recently participated in a local podcast that touched on this topic and, somehow, raised good arguments.

How does social networking sites affect real life relationships?

One is online and the other, well, IS generally offline even when some of it IS spent online.

Some of the questions raised and tried to find answers to were:

  • Will you ask your partner to delete photos/albums of his or her exes?
  • Why is that bit important to you?
  • Is it important for partners to update their profiles?
  • Why is it important to update?
  • Why keep an account (Friendster, Multiply, Orkut, MySpace) even when it has been dormant?

And there were several more. If you know the Filipino/Tagalog language, I suggest that you have a listen to the podcast dubbed as BoBCast, Episode 4: Of Banana Splits & Relationships over at Yugatech (though it was a mixture of English and Tagolog all throughout the podcast).

Anyway, perhaps you guys can give it a go right here by answering the questions. We all would appreciate an insight or two on the matter. :)
