It's important to know how much attention to pay to such incidents, to teach our children not to take all that pointless torture from them and to speak out so that their voice may be heard and something be done about it

Getting hysterical does no good.

As a teacher, I am very protective of the students. I do not and have not ever allowed name calling or bullying. I nip it immediately! I was bullied a little in school (not terribly bad), so I guess I am a little sensitive to it. Plus, if you let things go, it will only become worse. I even get on to my preschoolers for saying things like, "I won't be your friend anymore." No, I don't try to solve their problems for them, but I am trying to teach them to be respectful of one another.

I love the clipart you picked for this post. I hope all parents will recognize that it's no use getting hysterical over incidents at school. Be logical and calm knowing that children will practice being the victim and the bully at different times throughout their lives. I know many people have had much more serious bullying problems but I hope that the majority of cases can be resolved peacefully when parents on both sides are caring and understanding.
