I’ve seen the I Can Read! Widely series for beginning readers in stores but largely ignored them – until, that is, Fancy Nancy at the Museum. You know that my girls love Fancy Nancy – we have all of the hard back series. I was, however, overjoyed (to borrow a note from Fancy Nancy) to see my five year old pick up Fancy Nancy at the Museum and read the first page all by herself.
The I Can Read! book series helps readers learn to read at their own rate. As parents, it can be easy to overstate or underestimate the reading level of your child – let them discover on their own.
The first I Can Read! book, Little Bear, was published in 1957. Syd Hoff’s Danny and the Dinosaur followed in 1958.
I Can Read! is now the most popular beginning reader series in the country. It features more award-winning titles, authors, and illustrators than any other beginning reader series. It includes more than 200 titles for readers at five beginning reading levels.
Fancy Nancy at the Museum is a Level 1 book for beginning reading. Level 1 books feature short sentences, familiar words and simple concepts. Other Level 1 books include Digby and Little Bear.
