I Didn’t Think it was Possible, But…

First of all, I need to apologize (again) for being so quiet. I am being attacked by virus and illness from all sides. What’s worse is that the enemy appears to be winning. I am still fighting, but am considering taking the white flags out of retirement.

Now that I have issued my apology statement, I just want to say that I still write for CFS Squared and Baldiness, and am a proud blogger for b5media – but at the moment my health needs are just a bit more important. So for the next little while (hopefully only another week) posting will be sporadic, while I concentrate on getting better.

I had begun to think that my time of living in pain and sickness were over. I had been living fairly well with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for quite some time (with the exception of related illness such as pneumonia) – but honestly, this past month has thrown me for a loop. I have a whole lot of re-evaluating to do. I am still not a fan of the medicine route – and will be doing my best to explore other alternatives….at least I will after this latest virus goes away.

Please know that I am not far away, and will be doing my very best to write whenever I feel up to it – in the meantime if you miss me, read some of the archived posts, and enjoy some of the posts (and great comments) that you may have missed the first time around.

I hope this new season is finding you all well (or at least doing better than me).

  1. I hope you feel better soon. I can honestly say I know what you are feeling like and you have to take care of YOU first!

I get it – and remember – there are times that you really really need to put yourself first – really first.
Take care, rest, and feel better soon…
    Linda

    Thanks you guys.

At the very least I will be responding to comments – and emails, even if there will be no new posts.

If it was just a CFS relapse I would know what to do….with these viruses – I have no idea what I should or shouldn’t be doing….ahhh the life of dealing with mysterious illnesses.

Thanks again for the good vibes.

Viral meningitis? Really? Wow, that sucks. Well, take care of yourself, or better yet, con someone into taking care of you! ;)

  5. laura says:

I am having a bit of a hard time conning someone to come take care of me. Wonder why that would be.

Usually I try to be pretty careful around epidemic like illnesses….but had no idea that I had to watch out for something like meningitis.

Luckily its kind of a mild form – but still the pain is soo bad that I can’t imagine what a not mild form would feel like.

Anyway – will be trying to get as much rest as possible over the next week or so.

What I would do for a small bowl of ice cream though…..maybe I will have to send a neighbor out on a little errand.

    *hugs*

That’s really, really nasty. I wish grocery delivery still happened – I got to use it for a little while in TO before it proved to be a money-loss proposition (well, and I moved). That was a tummy-saver!

I’m with you on most of the prescipt meds, but I make the distinction between “throwing stuff at a problem that we don’t know the cause of, and we know this doesn’t cure it” and “you are infected by X, and the standard treatment is Y”. Sure, look up Y and know what you are getting into, but I don’t throw out all of conventional medicine.

Wishing you good sleep, pain-free moments, and that ice cream.

    Thanks Jenna,

my doctor gave me a little something to help with the swelling – but also told me that it will go away on its own (and that meds will probably not help). So I am just coping the best way that I can. I do wish that I could take something for the pain (I have never experienced pain like this before) – but since nothing is helping….I just need to deal with it.

Will be getting some ice cream today. I really really really need some.

  8. laura says:

why is Safeway out of Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey ice cream. Do they not realize that I am IN DIRE NEED of banana ice cream.

mint chocolate chip is not the same.

  9. Sylvia says:

    That’s just not right!

  10. laura says:

    I know.

    This is an emergency!

  11. Ellie says:

Hey Laura, I hope you’re doing better really soon! What a horrid illness! Have you told your doc about the pain and the fact nothing is working. I know you’re not a fan of meds bu there might be some stronger prescription pain killers that will help. Anyway, hang in there and I hope the supermarket gets in some banana icecream for you! *hugs*

  12. laura says:

    Thanks Ellie,

I am taking some painkillers now, but they arent really helping. It does help put me to sleep – which is good, since I am way worse in the night time.

It should move quickly though, and most likely will be back to normal by this time next week.

Tomorrow, I start calling the grocery stores in my neighborhood, to see if they stock banana ice cream.

  13. Ellie says:

Yeah, you go girl! I hope it does pass quickly, because it sounds like more pain and illness than anyone deserves! Especially on tops of your usual gamut of health issues.

  14. abi says:

    Dear Laura,
So sorry you’re feeling so rubbish, I hope you find some ice cream soon. I’ve been doing really well recently, since my sister bought me a book that was recommended to her by someone she works with who had m.e. I’m all too aware that what works for one person with our condition will be totally different from the next, and I think I was really lucky in coming across this book at the right time for me, but anyhow it’s helped me loads, you may well have heard of it, and I wouldn’t be offended if you laughed me out of the room once you’d seen it, but whatever. It’s called Heal Your Body by Louise L Hay. So, if you or anyone comes across a copy, it’s worth a look.
Best Wishes, I hope you’re feeling better really soon.

  15. laura says:

    Thanks Ellie.

I plan on getting well, as fast as possible.

  16. laura says:

    Thanks Abi,

I don’t know the book…but I will look into it, as soon as I get around.

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it….CFS as a daily struggle isn’t really my problem anymore. Did it…and as far as I am concerned I beat it.

However, I have been left with no immune system….and as careful as I am – its never good enough. So I just need to find the right way to deal with all of this other stuff – stuff that my time with CFS has caused.

The one thing I can say though, is that if I could come back from CFS to live a fairly normal life…I can do the same from all of these other illnesses that are attacking me right now. I am confident that this will not be a long term situation for me.

    Thanks for the book recommendation.

*hugs* I feel for you! I am suffering from complete, debilitating CFS too. I’ve been reading a bunch of therapies and have found two supplements that actually help! Really – NT Factor and D-ribose! no sales pitch, lol. I detail my program and progress in my blog, listed above. I’m adding your site to my blogroll. Glad I found you! carrie

  18. laura says:

    Thanks Carrie,

I hope you start feeling better really soon. As for me, I just got the go ahead to go back to work…which I am looking forward to doing – as I do not do bed rest very well.

Glad to know that you have founds something that works well for you.

Will add your site to my blogroll, momentarily.

Come back lots – there are a lot of fun people that hang out here.
