I Discovered the Wonder That Is Nutella

Have you ever tried that delicious mixture of Hazelnuts and chocolate known as Nutella? Oh my.

Yesterday, I purchased my first jar of this super-creamy, super-yummy spread. My daughter requested. I agreed. The rest is history.

nutella

We had it spread on our bagels for breakfast. We had it spread on graham crackers for desert tonight. I found a page with a huge list of Nutella recipes here. Baked French Toast with Nutella? Chili Hot Chocolate?  I’m definitely hitting this list pretty hard tomorrow.

My friend Leah told me that she used to buy  it all the time when she was stationed overseas in Germany with her husband, Kelly. It was part of their regular diet, along with these oddly pale, super-long pickled hotdogs that we saw at World Market today. We did not purchase the hotdogs. Leah kept shaking her head as she looked at them. We’ve all got some interesting food choice stories in our background. (Mine is related to being broke and eating nothing but a giant zuchini for 5 days when I was 22.)

How about you, have you tried Nutella? Are you shocked that it took me 42 years to finally taste it? I am, but now I’m thinking that we need that jar out of the house. Nutella, it’s addicting.

I love “sneaking” it into my kids’ peanut butter sandwiches every once in a while. Just a light layer on the bread, then the peanut butter over it. It covers it completely and totally surprises them when they get to lunch :)

  2. Oh yum! I will definitely try it with peanut butter. Thanks!

In France, Nutella is a religion, the national antidepressant, nice to ear about it here :)

I remember years ago when I was married, my sister in law lived on Nutella. Now in the past couple of years my teenage daughter has been raving about it and has asked me to buy it. I have never tried it, but I definitely think it is a chocolate lover’s necessity.

Wonderful stuff… and addictive. Try putting some in the microwave for about 30 seconds, pour it over vanilla ice cream and top with crushed cookies. Yum.

  6. Elizabeth says:

I love it on a nice, buttery croissant. I think I could eat an entire jar in one sitting.
