I Raise My Glass to You All
I was going to say it feels like losing a limb or having a pet run away, but that’s too melodramatic. After all, it’s just a blog. So, I decided it’s more like having a car that you love get totaled or maybe even stolen. You cared about it, put gas into it regularly, washed it when you had time, and showed it off to friends. It got you places you needed to go, and you usually had a good time getting there. Dinners, parties, job interviews, work, vacations. That is what my blog has been to me. When I first began blogging, it made me pay more attention to what I was drinking, where I was going, why the wine business is what it is. Then I switched to Behind the Vines, and I’d like to think I kicked things up a notch. Thought a little harder, wrote a little better.
But the most important thing, other than forcing me to write almost daily and keep track of my tasting notes more thoroughly, was the feedback. Family, friends, and people who have become friends over time. Even the occasional visitor. Everyone. You. Kind comments, encouragement, questions, ideas, e-mail exchanges . Granted, the occasional free wine for review wasn’t bad either. But I want to thank you all for joining me on this ride. For following me from one blog to another, from one winery to another. You’ve been there for my journey, and it’s more significant due to your companionship. Whether I’ve met you in person, or only online, your presence has meant so much. And I especially want to thank you for the support during these last few days. The caring comments here, the ones on Twitter, and in e-mails. It makes me less sad.
This is not my last post. There will be a few more. But I wanted to make sure you had time to read this one before it’s gone. I hope you get to read my toast, my cheers! to you all.

Farley, you will be a big loss if you don’t continue blogging…any thoughts on going back to Wine Outlook? I’m sorry there wasn’t more we could do to help save Behind the Vines.
No, the network Wine Outlook is on always seems to be down. If I do it again, it’s gonna be on my own, so I have full control! How it looks, what I write, etc.
Thanks for being here.
don’t be sad. bright light is coming through this newly opened window.
Farley,
I’ve been away on vacation so maybe I missed something- Is Behind the Vines ending?
This is just WRONG!!! I wish there were something we can do to save this. But I know you know that sometimes a door must be closed for another one (better one) to open. Chalk it up to experience and move on….so many better things await your lovely talent!!
Okay, I need some help here. Why does this blog have to go away?
Help, I’m dying for the answers here!
Brian, Kelly, and Paige,
Thank you for your concern and support.
nobile pig,
I’ll send an explanation!
SO SAD!!! What the heck happened?? I got the email the other day and thought I had missed a dramatic post on the sight? I am sure this is not the end of the Wine Chronicles of Farley.
Shoot me an email and let me know whats up. Are we still on for November?
Cheers
John
Blogs and wine can go hand in hand. Sometimes we go through periods of intense involvement and other times we back off a bit. Hopefully, you come back at some point and blog again.
Cheers, JB
