I’ll take, “Things I Never Thought I’d Hear My Dad Say” for, $500, Alex.

washer.jpgLong time readers will remember that I’ve never really grown used to my dad calling me for reasons other than, well, someone’s death.

Just when I think I’ve about gotten past that, the phone will ring, I’ll answer it, and, I’ll clench everything when I hear his voice, especially during the work day.

Yesterday?

*ring*

Me: “Hello?”

My dad: “Elizabeth?”

*his signature pause*

Me: (thinking) What? What? What?

My dad: “I got a new washer!”

Me: “OK.” (?)

My dad: “Yeah, mine (hilarious to hear him even say that, since I’m pretty sure he wasn’t even sure where it was located before my mother got sick) finally broke down, and, I bought a new one. They just brought it, and, it looks great!”

Me: “Well, great! Can you figure out how to use it?”

My dad: “Yeah, I think so. Gotta go. Bye!”

I think your dad is my dad’s long lost twin…for the first 30 years of my life, all phone calls were to report a catastrophe. Now, he calls to see if I saw an article in the newspaper.

  4. Happy Monkey says:

LOL. My call was “how do I work this damn coffee pot.”
