I’m Starting The South Beach Diet

I’ve been doing Atkins for seven months now, and I’ve reached a stall that has lasted at least four. I’ve heard some good things about the South Beach diet, so I’ve decided to start Phase 1 on Monday.
The South Beach diet is focused on “good” fats and carbs and is broken up into three phases. In Phase 1, grains, fruit and alcohol are prohibited. This is where I’m starting tomorrow and will stay there for 2 weeks. Phase 2 allows back some fruit, whole grains, and red wine, and Phase 3 is the maintainance phase that is the most lenient. This is where you would ideally stay for life.
I’d like to lose about 15 pounds, and I’ll keep you updated each Monday. I’m hoping this will break the stall I’ve experienced doing Atkins.
Have any of you tried the South Beach diet? What were your results? Let me know!

I haven’t tried South Beach but I am in a similar predicament. I’m at a stall and need to try something new to kick start things. Maybe South Beach is the answer for me too.
It’s going well so far for me, although I’m a bit hungrier than I was on Atkins. But I can eat a wider variety of things.
If you try it, be sure to let me know how it goes
South Beach is a great diet. Since you know and understand Atkins this should not be much of a stretch to get started. You do in fact have the phases right and the south Beach diet is not nearly as restrictive as Atkins tends to be.
I think it’s a great diet too. Much less restrictive than Atkins. Let’s just hope it does the job for me!
Hey Claire,
Good luck. I work in south fl at a center that specializes in liposuction in Fort Lauderdale and Miami, so i’ve heard a lot about all of the “fad” diets. I don’t consider the SB diet to be a fad. I look at as more of a lifestyle choice. My husband started it to lose some weight, and so I did the “diet” also. He lost weight and went off it; I stayed on it. Not to lose weight, but because I felt great. I never tried Atkins because I don’t eat red meat or pork, but I really like SB. Again, best of luck.
Thanks, Amanda! I don’t consider it to be a fad diet either. It’s all about making sensible choices, which seems like common sense to me.
I’m glad you enjoy the “diet” also. Thanks for commenting!
