I’m Thankful For….Wine

When I was growing up, sweets weren’t all that important to me. My mom always decorated for each holiday, including M & M’s and Kisses in their appropriate colors, and my friends would be munching on them weeks and months later. But as I’ve gotten older, the craving has presented itself, and I can understand why some people take chocolate so seriously.

Desiree dessert wineAnother thing that took me a while to appreciate was dessert wine. My first forays into Port and Madiera were treading tepid water. I kept trying, though, and would come to appreciate them and others– by themselves, with cheese, with chocolate. But the ultimate combination of both addictions would be the Desiree dessert wine at Rosenblum Cellars. Made from two traditional Portuguese grapes and Zinfandel, then infused with chocolate-flavored syrup, it is definitely not an everyday sipper. But I do like to taste it every now and again, enjoyed it on vanilla ice cream once, and like to inhale the heady scents of cocoa, vanilla, and cigar box that sometimes fill the tasting room dishwasher.

So when Heather over at Chocolate Bytes, who is having a contest, asked what chocolate we’re thankful for, it didn’t take me long to come up with something. Plus, that shirt looks fun.
